About the event
England’s Henry V arrives at a supported employment service: a factory in North Geelong. She sees thousands of French warriors ready to take up arms against her depleted and tired troops. With stirring words and not much more, she leads her people through a battle that represents the tragedy and extremity of war. We witness brave acts, thrilling combat and devastating loss. But beyond the cardboard armour and din of battle – who are these soldiers? If we see them as individuals, what more can we understand? Building on iconic adaptations of Shakespeare’s Henry V from cinema history, Back to Back Theatre brings their unique vision to this timeless story. Directed by Bruce Gladwin, with cinematography from Rhian Hinkley, Agincourt is the latest work in Back to Back Theatre’s expansive body of screen-based projects. Led by the company’s ensemble, over 100 community members contributed to this vast and stirring 23-minute film, bringing new perspectives to a story we thought we knew.
